site.btaUPDATED Only Economically Strong, Socially Stable EU Can Overcome Challenges, Guarantee Security, President Radev Says
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Three Seas Initiative summit in Warsaw on Tuesday, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said that only an economically strong and socially stable European Union can overcome challenges and guarantee its security.
"Military conflicts around our region have made achieving and ensuring security a priority. We must not forget that the focus on connectivity and competitiveness is no less important for the European Union than the rearmament of the continent," the head of State stressed.
Radev emphasized that during Bulgaria’s Three Seas Initiative presidency in Sofia, this country proposed the creation of a fund to accelerate cooperation in science, research, and innovation. "Now we see how forward-thinking this proposal was, in light of the race in artificial intelligence and beyond. Achieving better and more balanced distribution of scientific and research centres between Western and Eastern Europe is a prerequisite for greater investment interest and for accelerating economic and social convergence," Radev underscored.
The head of State emphasized that Bulgaria’s economy has benefited significantly from the country’s participation in the Three Seas Initiative, attracting investments of some EUR 200 million. He cited as examples the modernization of the Port of Burgas and investments in renewable energy capacities. According to Radev, Bulgaria’s proposal for Greece to join the initiative has also strengthened the country’s role and is expected to bring additional benefits.
