Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) Chair Vesela Lecheva sent a congratulatory address to tennis players Ivan Ivanov and Alexander Vasilev, who participated in a historic all-Bulgarian final at the US Open Boys' Singles on Saturday.
Top seed Ivanov defeated Vasilev 7-5, 6-3, securing his second Grand Slam title this season following his victory at Wimbledon.
"Today, it is a source of pride to be Bulgarian," Lecheva wrote in her address. "On our national day, September 6, two young, talented, and determined young men, great athletes and individuals, made us all feel proud to be Bulgarian. Ivan and Alexander are now part of the world tennis elite. I am confident we will continue to witness their success for many years to come," she added.
The BOC President also extended congratulations to their families, coaches, and the Bulgarian Tennis Federation.
Lecheva thanked the media for giving the success of Ivan Ivanov and Alexander Vasilev the recognition it deserves.
"Today, more than ever, we need real stars, true role models for our children to look up to," Lecheva noted. "The victories of Ivan and Alexander are not only sporting triumphs. They offer hope to young Bulgarians who believe that hard work pays off, that effort matters, and that they can compete with the best in the world," she added.
