The Bulgarian Republican Self-Government in Budapest, Hungary, has nominated Lilyana Zafirova for the Saint Zlata of Meglen Award in 2025, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (EABA) said.
"With her dedication, talent and love for Bulgarian folklore, Lilyana Zafirova builds living cultural bridges between Bulgaria and abroad," the EABA emphasized.
“Lilyana Zafirova dedicates her life to the preservation and dissemination of Bulgarian traditions and culture far from her homeland", the EABA pointed out, adding that she is conveying a bright mark in the world of dance, reaching from the first children’s ensemble in Bulgaria, through stages in New York, Vienna and Montreal, to the creation of dance groups in Hungary and Canada.
In 2021, Zafirova received the prestigious Hungarian State Award for Nationalities from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
In October, the EABA will present its annual Bulgarian Woman of the Year – Saint Zlata of Meglen Award. Twenty nominations have been received from 11 countries. BTA will present the nominees in a series of articles.
