Bulgarian Olympic Committee President-elect Vesela Lecheva and the Committee’s Vice President, Slavi Binev, met with the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Dong-bae Kim, Lecheva said in a Facebook post on Friday.

“The successes of the Republic of Korea as a host of major sports events and the friendly relations between our countries were at the centre of our conversation with Ambassador Dong-bae Kim. He is a friend not only of Bulgaria, but also of the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation,” Lecheva wrote following the meeting.

The Republic of Korea has hosted two Olympic Games, Seoul 1988 and PyeongChang 2018, both of which set new standards in the organization of large-scale sporting competitions, she added.

The newly elected BOC leadership headed by Lecheva has not yet been entered into the Commercial Register due to ongoing court appeals. On 17 May 2025, the International Olympic Committee provisionally recognized the results of the March 19 BOC Elective General Assembly, and the change in the leadership of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee was updated in the databases of the International Olympic Committee, the European Olympic Committee and the Association of National Olympic Committees. Later, BOC reacted to IOC's statement, attributing it to "unofficial communications, innuendo and diplomatic pressure aimed at pre-empting the decisions of the Bulgarian court and substituting external will for internal order."
