Bulgaria Claims Two Medals at Senior Judo European Cup in Sarajevo

Bulgaria won a silver and a bronze medal at the Senior Judo European Cup in Sarajevo. Hristo Valkov earned the silver in the men’s 81 kg event, and Sofia Rangelova claimed the bronze in the women’s 48 kg.

Another six Bulgarians placed 7th in their respective categories: Ivan Simeonov and Lyuboslav Grigorov (60 kg), Alen Hristov (73 kg), Emil Valchev (81 kg), Mariyan Palev (90 kg) and Aleksa Georgieva (52 kg).

For Hristo Valkov, it is the first senior men’s podium in an international competition. After prevailing over four opponents, in the final bout he was beaten by Abdul-Kerim Tasuev, a Russian representing the team of the International Judo Federation.

Similarly, Rangelova’s bronze is her first senior women’s medal at the international level.

A total of 306 entrants from 30 countries took part in the tournament. Bulgaria was represented by 11 judo wrestlers.
