Shumen has long been part of Europe, it has always been a place where history meets the future, a city of knowledge, of statesmanship and of bold steps forward, Shumen Mayor Hristo Hristov said Thursday at an information meeting here, part of the national information campaign on Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro.
He emphasized that here Bulgaria has repeatedly laid the foundations that make it part of European civilization, adding that the adoption of the euro as an official currency is a natural continuation of Bulgaria's European path after its membership in the European Union and Schengen. "Shumen has long been part of Europe. Important processes have entered the Bulgarian and public cultural life through the city," he pointed out.
Hristov stated that the Industrial Park in Shumen is among the fastest developing in the country. "This is a vivid example of a successful partnership between a municipality and a private investor. Until now, business has been creating high added value in leva. Very soon, it will continue to do so just as successfully in euro", he commented, adding that business is the engine of growth and it is it that strongly supports the introduction of the euro.
"I am convinced that this will attract additional investments, accelerate development and bring higher incomes to the people of our city. Shumen will continue to assert its role as a strong European region, with more opportunities, a higher standard of living and a confident future for its citizens," Hristov concluded.
