site.btaNew Lukoil Sanctions to Take Effect in a Month, Bulgaria Prepared, Says Justice Minister
Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev said in a BNT interview Sunday evening that new sanctions on Lukoil will come into force in about a month, unless developments in US–Russia negotiations lead to changes. The sanctions will block the affected companies from receiving payments through various bank accounts.
Minister Georgiev explained that the Bulgarian company Lukoil, owner of the Burgas oil refinery, and several of its subsidiaries are included in the sanctions because their ultimate owner is the Russian Lukoil. He noted that requests for deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis and coordinated with European partners, while ongoing dialogue continues with the US authority imposing the sanctions.
After a Cabinet meeting, Georgiev confirmed that Bulgaria has sufficient fuel supplies to meet domestic demand through the end of the year. The government has put in place a multi-step plan, including stock checks, strict monitoring, and detailed operational steps to ensure continuity of fuel supply.
