site.btaBulgaria Inflation Up Slightly in August, EU and Euro Area Stable


Annual inflation rate in Bulgaria slightly rose in August at 0.1% month-on-month, Eurostat reported on Wednesday. Data based on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) showed a modest acceleration in annual consumer price growth to 3.5% in August from 3.4% in July.
European Union annual inflation remained unchanged at 2.4% in August, stable compared to July. The euro area annual inflation was also stable at 2% in August, which is the European Central Bank’s (ECB) target level. The institution slightly adjusted its earlier estimate, which had forecast inflation in the euro area at 2.1% for August.
On a monthly basis, EU inflation rose by 0.2% in August compared to July, while in the euro area it increased by 0.1%.
In August, the lowest annual inflation rates in the EU were registered in Cyprus (0.0%), followed by France (0.8%) and Italy (1.6%).
The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (8.5%), Estonia (6.2%) and Croatia (4.6%).
