Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are the backbone of the Bulgarian economy and they will be the biggest beneficiaries of the introduction of the euro, Economy and Industry Minister Petar Dilov said here on Thursday during an information event, part of the National Information Campaign for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria.
Dilov emphasized that for SME the elimination of currency conversion costs means direct savings. The common currency will also facilitate the access of small and medium-sized enterprises to European markets, and contracts with partners from abroad will be more secure, the Minister pointed out, adding that these companies will have more resources for investments, innovations and expansion of their activities.
"We are strictly monitoring the currency conversion to prevent artificial price increases, and we are introducing constant monitoring of basic goods and services. We will regularly inform the public", Dilov stressed, noting that the dual labeling of prices will continue until August 8, 2026. Until October 8, 2025, the control will be entirely preventive, so that every trader can adapt calmly, he said.
Dilov pointed out that the euro is a currency that unites over 400 million people in 20 countries and is a symbol of stability, trust and common direction. He emphasized that the experience of the countries that have introduced the euro shows that incomes are growing faster and people are getting wealthier, while national economies are becoming more competitive and attractive for investments and business is gaining new opportunities for growth and partnerships.
No less important is the fact that the introduction of the euro is an act of trust in Bulgaria and financial discipline, Dilov commented. "This trust must be justified through transparency, dialogue and honest conversation with society," he noted.
