Consumer Basket Price Holds Steady at BGN 97

The price of the consumer basket remains unchanged from the Aug. 18 – 24 week, standing at BGN 97, Vladimir Ivanov, Chair of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets (CEWMSC), told a news briefing on Monday.

Among vegetables and fruits, wholesale prices fell for tomatoes by BGN 0.29, red peppers by BGN 0.12, cabbage by BGN 0.04, and green peppers by BGN 0.20. Apple prices remained stable compared to last week.

Price increases were observed for cucumbers, up BGN 0.24; lemons, up BGN 0.11; zucchini, up BGN 0.12; apricots, up BGN 0.08; and peaches, up BGN 0.05. Watermelons rose by BGN 0.03, potatoes by BGN 0.02, onions by BGN 0.02, and carrots by BGN 0.01.

Among staple food products, wholesale pork increased by BGN 0.10, cheese by BGN 0.02, fresh milk by BGN 0.05, beans by BGN 0.04, and eggs by BGN 0.01.

Products that decreased in price included yellow cheese (kashkaval) by BGN 0.10, yogurt by BGN 0.02, chicken by BGN 0.09, cooking oil by BGN 0.06, rice by BGN 0.04, flour by BGN 0.02, and butter by BGN 0.01.

Ivanov said that Bulgaria has a steadily functioning market with resilient market interactions, fully influenced by trends in the European market. He added that there are no economic factors, either globally or locally, that could trigger rapid price increases.
