The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) has approved the natural gas price for August at BGN 62.09 per MWh, excluding access, transmission, excise, and VAT costs. Bulgarian state-owned natural gas supplier Bulgargaz will sell at that price natural gas to end suppliers and licensed producers and distributors of thermal energy, the regulator said on Wednesday.

The approved price is 3.8% lower than the July rate of BGN 64.55 per MWh.

The regulator determined the price following an analysis of data submitted by Bulgargaz that form the pricing basis for August. The price mix includes the entire contracted volume of Azeri natural gas, which is delivered through the Bulgaria-Greece Interconnector (IGB) under a long-term agreement with Azerbaijan. These volumes cover a substantial share of domestic demand and are a key factor in achieving a favourable rate for natural gas.

For August, Bulgargaz has also secured liquefied natural gas supplies through contracts with traders, following a competitive tender with requirements for a minimum delivery price and specific payment terms.

The secured quantities cover the public supplier's commitments for August - to end-suppliers and district heating companies, as well as the quantities under bilateral contracts with industrial customers, the statement added.
