Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov presented Bulgaria's vision for attracting strategic investments in the energy and high-tech sectors at a meeting with representatives of General Electric Vernova / GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (US), Blue Bird Energy (Bulgaria) and Synthos Green Energy (Poland), the Ministry said on Tuesday.

The discussion focused on the technological solutions in the field of nuclear energy offered by the US company, in particular the BWRX-300 small modular reactors. The technology was presented as an opportunity to build small nuclear power plants in Bulgaria in the future to complement and support Westinghouse's current two AP1000 reactor project. The small modular reactors could further contribute to the country's long-term stable, predictable, affordable and low-emission power generation, and support the concept of creating data centres and AI-connected gigafactories as part of efforts to establish Bulgaria as a technology and energy hub in Southeast Europe, the release said.

The representatives of General Electric Vernova / GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy highly appreciated Bulgaria's investment potential, as well as the opportunities for joint work in strategic areas with high added value. On their part, a letter of intent from Eximbank (USA) for financial support of the company's projects in Bulgaria was also provided.

Stankov stressed that the US has a key role as a partner to provide full administrative support to any investor interested in developing high-tech projects in Bulgaria, in order to facilitate administrative processes and create a solid foundation for long-term presence and growth.

Attending the meeting were representatives of the US Embassy in Sofia, including Deputy Political-Economic Chief Jen Bauer, Senior Commercial Officer Hannah Kamenetsky, Commercial Specialist Emily Taneva, and Denitza Mantcheva from the European Regional Office of the US Department of Energy.
