Prices of staple foods are continuing to decline on Bulgaria’s wholesale markets, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.
The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went down by 1.04% to 2.307 points over the past week. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
Most vegetables saw a drop in prices during the week. New potatoes recorded the largest decrease, falling by 28.7% to BGN 2.50 per kilogramme. Old potatoes went down by 3.04% to BGN 1.37. Cucumbers depreciated by 15.9% to BGN 1.88/kg, cabbage by 14.2% to BGN 1.60/kg, turnips by 6.2% to BGN 0.88/kg, green peppers by 12% to BGN 4.02/kg, and lettuce by 9.03% to BGN 0.88/kg. The price of tomatoes dropped by 5.7% to BGN 2.50/kg, and that of onions by 5.4% to BGN 1.29/kg. Carrots remained unchanged at BGN 1.31/kg.
In the fruit category, apples rose by 6.9% to BGN 2.18/kg. Lemons went up by 5.51% to BGN 3.08/kg, while strawberries depreciated by 4.5% to BGN 5.45/kg. Bananas remained unchanged at BGN 2.83/kg.
The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went down by 0.3% to BGN 11.38/kg. The yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type saw a drop of 0.9% to BGN 18.46/kg.
The price of yogurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) decreased by 0.6% to BGN 1.39 for 400 grammes. Milk was priced at BGN 2.43 per litre. Butter from cow's milk rose by 1.6% to BGN 3.21 per 125 grammes.
The price of poultry increased by 52.2% to BGN 10.20/kg, while eggs (size M) remained stable at BGN 0.34 per unit.
The price of rice fell by 0.9% to BGN 3.31/kg, while flour (type 500) increased by 2% to BGN 1.51/kg. Sunflower oil rose by 3.7% to BGN 3.27/litre, sugar by 3.3% to BGN 1.87/kg, beans by 1.4% to BGN 4.34/kg, and lentils by 0.5% to BGN 4.35/kg.
