Heavy-duty trucks are not allowed to travel on Turkish E80 motorway, D100 and D110 expressways in the direction of Istanbul between 05:00 hrs Bulgarian time on April 14 and 05:00 hrs on April 15, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday, citing the Bulgarian Consulate General in Edirne.

The restriction was imposed by the Edirne Regional Government. Its aim is to minimize the negative effects of the expected heavy traffic in Istanbul and Ankara in connection with the end of Ramadan Bayram and the school holidays in the country.

Heavy-duty vehicles, entering Turkiye from Bulgaria via the Kapikule-Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint, Hamzabeyli-Lesovo checkpoint and from Greece via the Ipsala-Kipi crossing will be pulled over and redirected to parking lots near the border crossings until the restriction is lifted.
