site.btaBulgarian Ambassador Cholakov: In Turkiye, Bulgarian Culture Is Liked, Valued, Sought After

Speaking at an event at the BTA Press Club in Ankara on Monday, Bulgarian Ambassador to Turkiye Angel Cholakov said that there, Bulgarian culture is liked, appreciated and sought after. The event presented both the new BTA correspondent in Ankara, Ayse Sali, and an exhibition featuring posters from productions of Bulgarian plays translated into Turkish by Professor Huseyin Mevsim.
"Over the past years, all of us present here have managed to elevate Bulgarian culture in Turkiye to new stratospheres," Ambassador Cholakov said further. "In this great cultural flight, theatre has a special place," he added, and highlighted the special contribution of Prof. Mevsim, who brings the Bulgarian theatre to the Turkish audience.
Cholakov described Prof. Mevsim as a great ambassador of Bulgarian cultural, academic and intellectual power and thanked him for "passing on the torch and educating generations of admirers and supporters of our language, literature and spirituality."
He mentioned the special place that the Department of Bulgarian Language and Literature has at Ankara University's Faculty of Languages, History and Geography , which 15 days ago celebrated 90 years since its foundation. In his words, Prof. Mevsim "has his followers, his apostles" in the face of the students who translated the text for the subtitles of the film Vasil.
Regarding BTA's new correspondent in Ankara, Ambassador Cholakov said that he first met her two years and a half ago at Adana Airport, just hours after Turkiye's devastating earthquake. The Ambassador wished her to be healthy and happy in Ankara and "to participate, organise and reflect on events that are not dramatic but healthy, sunny and joyful".
Cholakov looked for symbolism between the historical events and Monday's meeting, recalling France's national holiday celebrated on this date, Bastille Day, as well as Democracy and National Unity Day in Turkiye on July 15. "There are no bastilles between Bulgaria and Turkiye to be conquered, our relations are wonderful and are an example for the region, Europe and the world," the Ambassador said further.
