French multidisciplinary artist Agoria and Cristina Kahlo, the grandniece of Frida Kahlo, will present their works at the second edition of Sofia Art Fair (SAF), the organizers said Monday.
The theme of this year's edition of the international contemporary art exhibition is “Imagine”. It will take place from October 2 to 5 at Sofia Tech Park.
This year, Sofia Art Fair will not be just an exhibition, but a platform for exchange and conversation. The SAF Talks programme will bring together leading figures from the international scene in Sofia, including directors of key institutions, curators, legal and cultural experts.
The programme includes the participation of Cristina Kahlo, a visual artist, photographer and distant relative of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
“Her participation is not just an artistic event, but a deeply symbolic gesture. Cristina carries within her both the blood and spiritual connection to one of the most emblematic women in the history of modern art. From Mexico to Sofia, she presents a visual language shaped by personal memory, emotional intensity and the inevitable echo of Frida’s rebellious audacity,” the SAF team pointed out.
“Known for his deep and atmospheric soundscapes, Agoria is the first visual artist to have realized a complete digital project at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris and a participant in the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. His presence at Sofia Art Fair brings a futuristic dimension to the programme – where the boundaries between art, technology and emotion are blurred in an impressive way,” they added.
Sofia Art Fair is the first contemporary art exhibition in Bulgaria, created with the mission of positioning the country on the world cultural scene. The first edition in 2024 attracted over 4,000 visitors, 29 galleries and collectives, and presented over 90 artists. Some 90% of exhibitors made sales – proof of the need for such a platform in Bulgaria. Through a programme such as SAF Talks, which includes panels, lectures and professional meetings, the exhibition supports international cultural exchange. In its first edition, SAF Talks attracted over 1,100 viewers and participants to its programme.
