A queue of visitors formed in the rain outside The Palace, a branch of the National Gallery in Sofia, on the final day of Chilean artist Guillermo Lorca's exhibition Beyond the Wonder.

The exhibition, featuring 17 large-scale paintings, opened on December 17. The gallery's team told BTA that interest has remained strong throughout its entire run.

"An impressive and bold exhibition," a woman told BTA after viewing the works.

A man noted that, given the heightened interest in Guillermo Lorca's work and the long wait, he had higher expectations. "I liked it, but it wasn't 'wow'," he said.

According to the National Gallery, the exhibition marks "the Chilean artist's entry into the European institutional art system, presenting for the first time in a European public museum a body of work that explores his surreal, seductive, and at times disturbing psycho-pictorial universe".

The exhibition follows a consistent thematic thread in the artist's oeuvre, from his early works created in 2012 to his most recent, unpublished pieces from 2025. The paintings featured in Beyond the Wonder are part of prestigious international collections.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is a media partner of the exhibition.
