Level of the Danube river at Ruse on Monday and Tuesday was 30 cm below the reference zero point, which is the lowest measured level for October 16-17 in the past 100 years, the city's hydrometeorological station told BTA on Tuesday.

Head of the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River Ivelin Zanev said that unusually low water levels had been observed over the past few weeks. Navigation in the Bulgarian river section is difficult.

"The most critical sections are in the area of the islands of Vetren, Vardim and Belene. Currently there are no stranded ships, but there are vessels waiting for better conditions to pass," Zanev said.

He also noted that the forecast for the next seven days is for the level to remain low and around these rates.
