The number of trips of Bulgarians abroad in July was 820,500, which is 12.1% more compared to July 2022, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.

In June, they were 790,300 or 16.1% more than the same month last year.

Most trips of Bulgarian citizens in July were made to Turkiye (220,900), Greece (216,400), Romania (60,400), Germany (54,400), Serbia (46,600), Italy (28,100), Austria (23,000), Spain (21,700), France (21,400) and the United Kingdom (17,300).

The largest share of trips during the month was for leisure and excursion purposes - 44.8%, followed by those for other purposes (visiting, studying, attending cultural and sporting events) - 38.6%, and for business purposes - 16.6%.

In July 2023, foreigners' visits to Bulgaria amounted to 1,836,000 or 19.7 % more than in July 2022. Foreigners visiting our country in June were 1,392,100 or 23 % more than in June 2022.

The NSI said that an increase was registered in July for all monitored purposes. Transits through the country accounted for 35.9 % (658,300) of all visits of foreign nationals to Bulgaria.

The share of citizens from the European Union who visited Bulgaria was 49.8 % of the total number of foreign citizens and reached 914,000, with the highest number of visits by citizens from Romania (24.6%), Germany (19.7%) and Poland (10.6 %).

Visits by citizens from European countries outside the European Union amounted to 709,900, or 38.7% of all visits to Bulgaria. The largest number of visits was recorded from Turkiye - 266,400 or 37.5 % of visits in this group.

The largest number of visits to Bulgaria came from Turkiye (266,400), Romania (224,900), Ukraine (214,600), Germany (180,000), Poland (96,600), Serbia (75,600), Greece (72,500), the Czech Republic (60,600), the United Kingdom (59,800) and France (41,500).

According to the data, the share of visits for holidays and excursions is predominant - 50.3%, followed by those for other purposes - 43.9%, and for business purposes - 5.8%
