The summer edition of the Webit 2023 forum takes place at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in Sofia on Wednesday. Webit 2023 is focused on the transformations in the world, the development of artificial intelligence and technology and the possibilities of successfully adapting to changes. The forum brings together researchers, innovators, investors and speakers from over 50 countries. For the 15th year in a row, Sofia is hosting the event.
Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova called on foreign investors to invest in young people in Bulgaria. “Technologies transform our lives, our task is to use them to improve the quality of life,” she said. Fandakova noted the contribution of the capital to the development of the country – the GDP that Sofia produces is BGN 51 billion, which is 43% of Bulgaria's economy, and over 50%of direct foreign investments in the country are made in the capital.
Addressing the forum, Liliana Pavlova, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) said: "To initiate new discussions, finance green ideas and achieve decarbonisation and a clean planet, we need to be creative and each of us needs you, the pioneers of new technologies". She explained that innovative platforms such as Webit and startups bound by the new European Union directives will build the future innovative and clean economy with the support of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. "Until 2030, the European Investment Bank will invest EUR 1.3 billion in new technologies to help reorganize economic processes. Europe needs decarbonization and green energy to make us independent from Russia," insisted Pavlova and added, that more than 50% of European innovation is supported by the EIB.
