site.btaFood Price Index Continues to Go Down

The market price index (MPI), which reflects wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, decreased by 1.608% this week to 2.287 points, according to data from the Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets State Commission. The level of the index at the beginning of the year was 2.316 points. It then reached its spring high of 2,480 points in the first third of March.

The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

The price of greenhouse tomatoes decreased by 7.2% and were sold at BGN 3.34 per kilogram. The price of greenhouse cucumbers increased by 8.2% to BGN 3.03 per kilogram. Red peppers went up in price by 2.4% to BGN 4.32 per kilogram at the end of the week.

Potatoes went up in price by 11.95% and were sold at BGN 1.51 per kilogram, while the price of carrots went down by 8.5% to BGN 1.51 per kilogram. Cabbage has decreased in price by 5.9% to BGN 1.28 per kilogram. Green salad increased in price by 15.8% and was sold at BGN 1.32 per piece.

The price of imported apples decreased by 4.4% and were sold at BGN 1.73 per kilogram. Lemons went up in price by 2.6% to BGN 2.38 per kilogram. Strawberries became cheaper by 8.7% to BGN 5.06 per kilogram. Bananas increased in price by 0.3% to BGN 3.01 per kilogram. 

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk decreased by 1.6% and traded at BGN 11.11/kg, Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese lost 0.5% and traded at BGN 17.24/kg.

Sunflower oil depreciated by 2.8% and sold at BGN 3.16/litre at the end of the week.

Butter traded at BGN 2.57 per 125 g. The wholesale price of poultry decreased by 0.6% to BGN 6.21/kg. Sugar lost 0.8% and was selling at BGN 2.38/kg.

Grade 500 flour went down by 4.3% to BGN 1.32/kg. Rice lost 6.7% and was selling at BGN 2.94/kg.

The price of wheat flour type 500 decreased by 3.8% to BGN 1.29 per kilogram.

The price of rice went down by 0.3% to BGN 3.05 per kilogram. 

Size M eggs were selling at BGN 0.35 a piece at the end of the week.
