site.btaEnergy Regulator Approves 3.3% Cut in Natgas Price for January 2026
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) has approved a natural gas price for January 2026 of BGN 60.92 per megawatt-hour (MWh), or EUR 31.15/MWh, excluding access, transmission, excise duties and VAT. At this price, Bulgargaz EAD will sell natural gas to end suppliers and to licensed producers and transmitters of thermal energy, the regulator said on Tuesday.
The approved price of EUR 31.15/MWh is 3.3% lower than in December 2025, when it stood at EUR 32.22/MWh. A comparison of price levels shows that the current price is 25% lower than in January 2025 and 21.5% lower than in January 2024.
The regulator approved the price following an analysis of updated data submitted by Bulgargaz EAD. The pricing mix includes the full contracted volume of Azerbaijani natural gas delivered via the Bulgaria-Greece interconnector (IGB) under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan. These quantities cover a substantial share of consumption and play an important role in achieving a favourable gas price. Bulgargaz has also secured liquefied natural gas (LNG) volumes for January under contracts with traders, following a tender held with requirements for a minimum delivery price and a proposed payment method. The pricing mix for the month also includes gas from the Chiren underground gas storage facility.
With the secured volumes, the public supplier is meeting its commitments for January to end suppliers and district heating companies, as well as under bilateral contracts with industrial customers. Gas supplies have been contracted for the entire winter season and, if there is no significant increase in regional demand, prices may remain around current levels, which would ensure price stability for Bulgarian consumers, the EWRC added.
