The consortium will support the Bulgarian side in exercising investor control and monitoring the processes related to the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the new nuclear capacities at the Kozloduy NPP site, including the initial engineering activities.
Lecce underscored that Bulgaria and Canada have been working together in the energy sector as partners for many years. “We know that the initiative we are launching today is built on solid foundations and will provide opportunities for economic growth and clean energy. This agreement will enable actions to be carried out on time and within a reasonable budget, which is an important priority for us,” he said.
According to him, as part of the cooperation, there will be opportunities for research in the scientific field, development activities, and the growth of local businesses.
He said that the partnership will allow both the Canadian and Bulgarian sides to achieve success together in the construction of the new units. Lecce emphasized that Canada is developing a small modular reactor, which will also give Bulgarian partners the opportunity to advance in the same direction.
