Anna-Maria Halacheva, a PhD student at the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, was recognized by the European Commission as one of the examples of successful young Europeans, the Ministry of Education and Science reported here on Thursday.
The talented researcher was featured in the strategic document titled "From promise to progress: First year in office", which accompanies the annual State of the Union address of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, delivered on Wednesday. Bulgaria is among the few countries like Romania, Poland, and Czechia distinguished for their talented young scientists.
Halacheva is a recipient of the prestigious Google DeepMind scholarship and was included in Forbes Bulgaria’s “30 under 30” list (2024). According to the document, she "researches 3D computer vision and robotics, to advance autonomous systems”, taking an open, collaborative approach to scientific research.
Young researchers' success is supported by creating the right environment and investing in projects, such as INSAIT, which along with Sofia Tech Park has secured EUR 90 million in EU funding to build an AI factory.
