1923: Communist-led September Uprising breaks out in Village of Maglizh near Kazanlak (Central Bulgaria).

1962: Diplomatic relations established with Laos.

2007: Parliament passes Diplomatic Service Act.

2007: Border checkpoint opens as part of ferry link between Silistra (Northeastern Bulgaria) and Calarasi (Romania).

2011: Privatization and Post-privatization Control Agency and Austria's BT Invest sign agreement on sale of 79.83 per cent stake in Bulgartabac Holding AD Sofia.

- Holiday of Directorate General of Fire Safety and Civil Protection.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1881: State Council is established as supreme authority by princely decree during Full Powers Regime (1881-1883). State Council abolished on November 9, 1883, after restoration of Tarnovo Constitution (September 6, 1883).

1905: First national association of firefighters is set up.

1943: Bulgaria's 60th Government, headed by Dobri Bozhilov, is sworn in (in office until June 1, 1944).
