The Balkans Sings and Dances International Folklore Festival will take place on September 6 and 7 in Berkovitsa, the Berkovitsa Municipality said on Thursday.

Dance and singing groups from all over the country and abroad, as well as individual performers and instrumentalists, are expected to participate. Singers and dancers will perform on an open stage at the Yordan Radichkov Square, showcasing original and processed folklore from their native places.

The festival will be competitive, with Berkovitsa Municipality providing a prize fund for the winners. The festival has been held many times in the past, but not regularly, the Municipality told BTA, adding that that the current municipal government intends to make it an annual event. The goal is for it to be a celebration of Bulgarian and Balkan folklore, which revives the spirit and wealth of the region's intangible cultural heritage.

Applications for participation are accepted until August 15.

The Balkans Sings and Dances International Folklore Festival is organized by the Berkovitsa Municipality and the local community centre.
