There is no danger of Nessebar being delisted from UNESCO’s World Heritage List for tangible cultural heritage, Bulgarian Culture Minister Marian Bachev said on Wednesday, ahead of the regular cabinet meeting.

Bachev emphasized that the recognition of the Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Sozopol as a UNESCO Category 2 Centre is expected soon – a significant milestone that will reinforce Bulgaria's international standing and leadership in the field of maritime archaeology.

Bachev reported that from July 6 to 16, a session of the World Heritage Committee was held at UNESCO's headquarters. The committee reviewed a record number of dossiers — nearly 250 — making it one of the most intensive sessions in recent years.

Professor Nikolay Nenov, Director of the Regional History Museum in Ruse, represented Bulgaria with distinction, serving as Chair of the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Bulgaria also organized several side events, including the exhibition “On the Waves of the Black Sea through the Ages”, a performance by the Bistritsa Babi – an ensemble inscribed on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the screening of the Treasures of Bulgaria documentary by historian and presenter Bettany Hughes.

According to Bachev, Bulgaria’s consistent engagement with UNESCO initiatives and the quality of its cultural programmes affirm the country’s active role in protecting and promoting global heritage.
