Vice President Iliana Iotova opened the 62nd Summer Seminar on Bulgarian Language and Culture at Sofia University, the President administration's press centre said here on Monday. "You are the best ambassadors of Bulgaria, of the Bulgarian language and culture around the world, the most successful representatives of cultural diplomacy. I am happy that today, in the aula of the oldest Bulgarian university, representatives of so many countries do not need an interpreter and we speak in the beautiful Bulgarian language," she said.

The annual seminar brings together foreign scholars, students, and translators interested in Bulgarian studies and Slavic languages.

This year, more than 80 participants from 26 countries are expected to attend, including representatives from Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, the UK, Germany, Greece, Georgia, India, Italy, China, South Korea, Moldova, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, the US, Slovakia, Serbia, Turkiye, Ukraine, Hungary, Czechia, and Japan.

The Vice President congratulated the organizers for the rich program of the seminar. "The Summer Seminar for Bulgarians is dedicated to memory and the future. Memory, which has an intersection with today, tells about the past and points to the future - the development of the Bulgarian language, new trends in contemporary Bulgarian culture and literature with authors of wide international recognition," Iotova said.

In her address, the Vice President pointed to the two significant anniversaries that Bulgaria is celebrating - 1160 years since the conversion of the Bulgarian people and 1170 years since the founding of the Glagolitic alphabet. "The Glagolitic alphabet is a unique graphic system, a true revolution, created so the word of God can reach the people in an understandable language," Iotova said.
