Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in the education system, said Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev during a round table on "BAIT in Support of Education" here on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies (BAIT).

According to Valchev, artificial intelligence will be used by teachers in teaching students as well as for assessment and administrative work. According to him, teachers will more or less follow what is happening in the computer sector, namely to take advantage of the help of artificial intelligence.

Students will be one step ahead in their desire to use artificial intelligence, and teachers will try to adapt teaching methods to their motivation, the Education Minister said. He added that his Ministry had prepared material on working with artificial intelligence last year, which now needs to be updated.

According to him, the key thing to be found in the formula for using AI is how to make it not just a tool but a collaborator. Valchev pointed out that electronic devices and electronic materials are also currently being used for learning.

Today's students will live in a world that will require even more complex skills, he said. "The time spent in front of screens should be for educational purposes, and our students have the highest amount of screen time, but much of it is not for educational purposes, i.e. they have the highest number of distraction periods," the Minister argued. He said there is a need to limit distraction time because it is at the expense of all other skills. He believes that basic skills such as a broad solid foundation in the humanities, concentration, science, and the arts will continue being of greater importance.
