The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) marked Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slav Letters here on Friday with a solemn ceremony and a concert.
The event took place in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall and was opened by the Vice President of BAS, Prof. Emanuel Mutafov. In his address, he emphasized that the Academy continues to embody Bulgarian national spirit with its inherent pursuit of knowledge and progress. According to him, BAS scholars "preserve the pure and righteous Bulgarian language, publish the objective truth about Bulgarian history and culture, and uphold national identity."
Among the official guests were Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil, as well as representatives of the scientific and academic community.
The President of BAS, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, expressed gratitude to the scholars and teachers who continue the mission of the Holy Brothers.
A congratulatory address from President Rumen Radev was read during the event.
Minister Valchev also addressed the attendees: “Education, science, and spirituality are not just the most direct path — they are the only path toward living in a better, more harmonious, more prosperous society. And for that, we rely most on you — the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, we rely on educational institutions, we rely on cultural institutions, we rely on the Bulgarian Orthodox Church,” said the Minister.
