Bulgaria's Amalipe Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance said that schools students, volunteers and mediators are participating in various events marking International Roma Day, April 8.

The organization, which works for the integration of Roma in Bulgarian society, recalled that on April 8, Roma all over the world pay tribute to the Roma victims of World War II. The date was chosen in honour of the First World Romani Congress, held in London on April 8, 1971. In 1992, the United Nations and the Council of Europe, at the suggestion of the International Romani Union, declared April 8 International Roma Day.

Films about the Roma or featuring Roma in the cast will be screened at Sofia's Odeon Cinema on April 11-15. They are part of an international selection of films against stereotypes.
