On September 25, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) will release into circulation a gold coin commemorating the centenary of the establishment of the Faculty of Theology, which, for most of its history, has been part of Sofia University, the central bank says on its website.
The coin has a nominal value of BGN 100, and its price upon release will be BGN 1,470. Its circulation will be 4,000 units.
The obverse side shows the BNB logo, with the year 1879 inscribed on a ribbon. The phrase "100 leva" (in Bulgarian, like all other text on the coin), indicating the nominal value, appears in a frosted section below, which also features the year of the issue, 2023. Along the upper part of the rim of the coin is the phrase "Bulgarian National Bank".
The reverse side features the building of the Faculty of Theology and the year 1923 inscribed below it. The phrases "Faculty of Theology" (above) and "100 years" (below) appear along the rim.
The coin will be sold at two BNB counters, Sofia, 1, Knyaz Alexander I Sq., and at four counters in the BNB Cash Centre, Sofia, 10, Mihail Tenev St. A client may purchase only one coin at the BNB counters, whether for themselves or for someone else, the bank explained. When buying a coin on behalf and for the account of someone else, the client must present a notarized power-of-attorney issued exclusively for the purchase of this commemorative coin. If a client, as a natural person, has bought a coin at the BNB counters, they may not buy another coin as a representative of a legal entity, and vice versa. Commemorative coins may not be purchased by persons who are under 18 years old.
By the close of business on September 25, BNB will have made the new coin available at Fibank, Texim Bank and Central Cooperative Bank for sale at their offices and branches.
