Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman issued a proclamation officially declaring May 24 as Bulgarian Heritage Day in Las Vegas. "This follows the excellent relationship that the Consul General of Bulgaria, Mr. Boyko Hristov, has been building with the local authorities in Las Vegas, Nevada, and his landmark meeting with the Mayor," the diplomatic mission announced Thursday.

In the proclamation, Goodman formally invites residents and visitors to celebrate with her and also mark the 145th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria and the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the United States.

Consul General Boyko Hristov personally received the proclamation at the municipal building, accompanied by a large Bulgarian delegation. Part of the delegation were representatives of the Bulgarian Association in Nevada, the Bulgarian Business Women's Club, the two Bulgarian schools, Bulgarian restaurants, the Zharava Folklore Ensemble and others.

In Las Vegas this year the May 24th holiday was celebrated with a large-scale gathering last weekend, where hundreds of compatriots gathered and spent the day together with a rich program and a lot of fun. The Bulgarian community in Las Vegas is one of the most cohesive in organizing Bulgarian events and honoring Bulgarian traditions and cultural heritage, the Consulate General said in a statement.
