More than 200 people took part in the Europe Day celebrations in Brussels on Tuesday, as this year the holiday is dedicated to Bulgaria. The festivities took place at the cultural centre de Kam in the Belgian municipality of Wezembeek-Oppem.

"The attendees were three times more than we expected and at least half of them were foreigners," organizer Elitsa Dimitrova told BTA.

The programme included Bulgarian folk dances. Several Bulgarians living in Belgium spoke about their integration in the country.

"Six Bulgarians - five women and one boy, briefly talked about their life here in Belgium, how they came, what they do here and how they feel in this country. They all spoke Dutch and did very well, with a sense of humour, as they even shared funny stories from their immigrant life", Dimitrova added.

She stressed that the event is organized on a voluntary basis and all the organizers and participants are volunteers.

"I am impressed by the efforts the local community puts into easing the integration of foreigners, opening their doors and eyes to other nations and cultures," Dimitrova said.

Some 30 Bulgarians took part in the event, as 5-6 of them joined as organizers.
