One of the most remarkable Bulgarian treasures, the Panagyurishte Treasure, has gone to London to take part in the exhibition Luxury and Power: From Persia to Greece at the British Museum, the National History Museum (NHM) said Monday.
The exhibition will be officially opened on May 4. It traces the relationship between wealth and politics in the first millennium BC with objects from Europe to Asia, the British Museum announcement of the exhibition says. "Drawing on dazzling objects from Afghanistan to Greece, the exhibition moves beyond the ancient Greek spin to explore a more complex story about luxury as a political tool in the Middle East and southeast Europe from 550–30 BC.," it says adding also that "the exhibition brings together exquisitely crafted objects in gold, silver and glass, including the extraordinary Panagyurishte Treasure from Bulgaria".
In connection with the upcoming exhibition, a series of meetings with the curator of Luxury and Power: From Persia to Greece, Dr. Jamie Fraser, took place at the invitation of National History Museum Director Bonnie Petrunova in Sofia.
Accompanied by a team from the National History Museum, Dr. Fraser toured the museum's permanent exhibition, visited the Boyana Church and the Valley of the Thracian Kings.
As a result of the talks, the largest museum institution in Bulgaria negotiated future professional relations with the British Museum for the exchange of best practices, experts in the field of museum work, archaeology and cultural heritage.
Luxury and Power: From Persia to Greece will be open for visitors between May 4 and August 13, 2023.
