The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University ranks first in Eastern Europe and is among the top four institutions from EU countries by number of accepted publications at the world’s leading conference on computer vision and artificial intelligence, CVPR 2026, the Education Ministry said on Wednesday.

The annual CVPR conference brings together leading scientists and technology companies in the fields of computer vision and AI. The 2026 edition will be held on June 3-7 in Denver, US and is expected to attract more than 10,000 participants.

The Bulgarian research institution has 17 scientific papers accepted at the global event, outperforming universities such as University of Cambridge, Princeton University and Yale University, as well as all institutions from Sweden, Finland, Israel, France, the Netherlands and Spain.

In addition to the 17 papers in the main programme, INSAIT will have one oral presentation, a distinction awarded to only 3.5% of accepted papers. The institute also has three papers in the conference’s new discoveries section, bringing the total number of accepted papers to 20. INSAIT will also be co-organizing two international workshops and two international scientific competitions within the framework of the conference.

The accepted papers focus on some of the most advanced areas of artificial intelligence today, including AI for robotics, spatial reasoning, egocentric vision, Earth observation, visual agents and agentic vision.

According to the Education Ministry, this will be INSAIT’s strongest participation at CVPR so far. Overall, 25% of the papers submitted by the institute were accepted for the conference, a result that further strengthens its position as one of the leading AI organizations in Europe.

INSAIT, based in Sofia, is the first institute in Eastern Europe to offer world-class research conditions comparable to those at leading Western universities and research institutes. The institute operates as a specialized unit of Sofia University and was established in partnership with ETH Zurich and Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), two of the world’s top technology universities.

Leading scientists from top US, European and Israeli universities and research laboratories guide and advise the institute. INSAIT’s main focus is on scientific excellence, including world-class research, attracting internationally recognized researchers, and educating the next generation of students and technology leaders.
