site.btaDryanovo Museum Hosts Premiere of Book Marking 150 Years Since April Uprising

The History Museum in Dryanovo will host the premiere of the book the April Uprising 1876 – 2026. 150th Anniversary of the Bulgarian Uprising of 1876, Ivan Hristov, director of the cultural institution announced on Monday.

The event will take place on March 31 at the temporary exhibition hall of the Kolyu Ficheto exhibit. The publication is bilingual and aims to present to both Bulgarian and foreign audiences the preparation, course, and consequences of the April Uprising.

The book is authored by Prof. Petko St. Petkov of the Sts Cyril and Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo and Assoc. Prof. Dr Atanas Shopov, director of the History Museum in Panagyurishte. The edition was initiated by Bulgarian Bestseller Publishing House and was released at the end of 2025. Publisher Dimitar Tomov will attend the premiere.

The book includes original historical documents, eyewitness accounts from participants, foreign diplomats and journalists’ comments, as well as a rich collection of illustrations, photographs, maps, and biographies of key figures. The parallel English translation is intended to promote the event as part of the global history of the struggle for freedom.

The premiere is part of a series of events marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The anniversary is being commemorated with numerous initiatives across the country, including conferences and public discussions organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) in its national press clubs.
