site.btaNew Issue of LIK Magazine Explores History of Literature, Editor-in-Chief Lozanov Says
The latest issue of LIK magazine, themed “Literature and Memory,” was difficult to prepare because of the complex task it set for itself. “On one hand, it is dedicated to the anniversary of the National Literary Museum, but the literary museum is an institution of the history of literature, so this issue is really about the history of literature,” LIK Editor-in-Chief, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Lozanov said at the launch of the new issue. The premiere was held at the Ivan Vazov House Museum in Sofia. The date of the event was symbolic, Vazov’s Sofia home was officially opened to visitors on November 26, 1926, making it the first literary museum in the country.
“The history of literature has its own heroes, the writers themselves. And this issue features quite a few writers who are marking anniversaries,” Lozanov said, adding that “a literary work, unlike the objects we are used to seeing in traditional historical narratives, does not remain in the past. It continues to live on and is part of the present. What we call the history of literature, and what we expect to see in a museum, is quite different from our conventional notions of history and museum space. This is where the complexity of this issue comes from.”
Yanitsa Hristova, Managing Editor of BTA's LIK magazine, said that working on this issue had not been easy. She emphasized the support provided by BTA’s Archives and Reference Directorate. Hristova explained that the opening page of the issue features a chronology starting from 1945, and the first news item recounts how Nikolay Liliev was appointed to the National Theatre’s artistic council. The chronology also includes reports on the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Ivan Vazov, commemorated not only in Bulgaria but abroad as well. There are numerous news items about the Ivan Vazov House Museum, its restorations, renovations, and the visits of various guests to the room once inhabited by Vazov, Hristova added.
