site.btaVarna-hosted Orthodox Book Week Attracts New Publishers
The 23rd edition of the Orthodox Book Week, held in Varna, has attracted new publishing houses from dioceses that did not previously participate, said Metropolitan Yoan of Varna and Veliki Preslav. He officially closed the forum at the St. Procopius of Varna Church. His assessment of this year’s event was that it was “much broader in scope.”
The Metropolitan recalled that the Orthodox Book Week was interrupted because of the pandemic. “In 2024, the forum was interesting, but this year’s edition was even more so, and it is noticeable that there is a growing desire for a wider presentation of books and literature,” Metropolitan Yoan said.
He explained that a large number of Bulgarian Orthodox dioceses took part, along with publishing houses from theological higher schools, the Faculties of Theology at Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo Universities, as well as the Plovdiv Theological Academy and Seminary, including publishers affiliated with local churches.
The Metropolitan said that, in addition to books, this year’s Orthodox Book Week also featured the presentation of a new project by Dveri - a website called "The Word Became Flesh”, dedicated to the interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. He also highlighted the publication of a new Service Book (Euchologion) by the Western European Diocese, intended for Bulgarians living abroad. Later in the evening, Metropolitan Yoan also presented the latest publications of the Varna and Veliki Preslav diocese.
“At the Orthodox Book Week, there was broad participation, and I hope we managed to satisfy many people, especially young people,” the Metropolitan added, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to organizing the forum.
