Police officers seized over EUR 21,000 and BGN 5,000 from a house in the village of Govedare in Pazardzhik Region during an operation against vote buying, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The owner of the property, a 32-year-old man from the village, had offered voters money to persuade them to support a particular municipal council candidate.

A pre-trial investigation is under way. Under the supervision of the prosecution service, authorities are working to prevent and combat offences related to citizens' voting rights ahead of the municipal council elections in Pazardzhik on October 12.
