Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov said on Thursday that his Ministry had committed to sending experts to Burgas to advise the regional administration on the recently flooded Elenite seaside resort. The Minister was attending the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership between the National Railway Infrastructure Company, the Electricity System Operator, and ESO Charge earlier on Thursday.
Stankov added that he had instructed the CEO of the National Electric Company (NEK) to liaise with the operational headquarters in Burgas to assess the number and expertise of staff required, so they could be deployed the same day. He said the electricity transmission network had sustained damage, and it was the responsibility of the distribution company Elektrorazpredelenie Yug to carry out the necessary repairs. “We are extremely careful when restoring power to ensure that no lives are put at risk,” Stankov said.
In the snow-affected areas of Etropole, Montana, Kyustendil and Tran, teams worked around the clock, with the main problem being snow-laden tree canopies that caused many trees to fall. Stankov said the fallen trees had been cleared and electricity restored, even in small settlements with up to 10 consumers, while electric generators were installed in some locations.
