A delegation of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) met with a delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) at the BSP headquarters in Sofia as part of the preparations for the forthcoming visit of CPV General Secretary To Lam at the end of October, BSP said in a press release here on Wednesday.

“This is the second working meeting, which is indicative of the growing intensity of relations between our two parties and our two countries, which traditionally have been deep and at a very high level,” said BSP MP Deyan Dechev, Organizational Secretary of the BSP National Council and member of the Bulgaria-Vietnam friendship group in Parliament. He recalled the visits of the Speaker of the Vietnamese National Assembly to Bulgaria in 2023 and of the Bulgarian Parliament’s Chair to Vietnam in 2024 as proof of the active dialogue.

Deputy Foreign Minister and BSP National Council member Nikolay Berievski emphasized the long-standing ties, noting that the two countries have had diplomatic relations for 75 years. He thanked the Vietnamese side for including Bulgaria among the 12 EU member states whose citizens may stay in Vietnam for up to 45 days without a visa. He also highlighted the active cultural and educational exchanges, with around 30,000 Vietnamese citizens having studied and worked in Bulgaria.

BSP National Council member Valeri Zhablyanov stressed that BSP is the successor of the Bulgarian Communist Party, adding that the visit of the CPV General Secretary is not only a matter of bilateral relations but also of shared political tradition.

For her part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bulgaria Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet underlined the key role of BSP as a governing party in fostering ties between the two nations. She said her main mission is to arrange the meeting between CPV General Secretary To Lam and BSP leadership.

“The meeting between the leaderships of BSP and CPV in Bulgaria is more than necessary. And BSP Chair Atanas Zafirov is also Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister. It is a great honour for us to welcome the CPV leadership at our party headquarters,” Dechev added.

On Tuesday, Bulgarian National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova conferred with representatives of the delegation of the Ethnic Council of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who are on an official visit to Bulgaria, the Bulgarian National Assembly’s press office reported Tuesday.
