MP Bozhidar Bozhanov of the opposition Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) said here Thursday that his Yes, Bulgaria party has submitted a tipoff to the competent institutions regarding "significant discrepancies" between the declared assets of Delyan Peevski, the MRF - New Beginning leader, and the financial statements of the companies he owns. "The differences range between BGN 100 and 130 million," Bozhanov said during a protest rally outside the MRF - New Beginning headquarters in central Sofia.
He added that, despite being largely under Peevski’s influence, the Prosecutor’s Office, the National Revenue Agency, and the Commission for Illegal Assets Forfeiture are obligated to verify the figures.
A statement about the tipoff later came from Yes, Bulgaria, saying that it was submitted by Bozhanov and MP Ivaylo Mirchev to the Commission for Illegal Assets Forfeiture, the National Revenue Agency and the Prosecutor General's office. Bozhanov was quoted as saying that Peevski has declared more dividends than the dividends his companies have actually paid him. "These discrepancies could indicate money laundering or unpaid taxes. Institutions should investigate all this, and although they are largely controlled by him, these are numbers that can be calculated. Someone would have to invent a new kind of math to prove that Peevski is clean."
