Interior Minister Daniel Mitov responded to criticism from Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) regarding the Council of Ministers' proposal to appoint Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov as Secretary General of the Interior Ministry. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mitov said that CC-DB sees "the long arm of backroom deals in every appointment, in every administrative move."
He added that the example of the proposal to appoint Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov as Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior is indicative of this.
"Instead of a discussion on his expertise and the needs of the system, the reaction of CC-DB was predictable: 'This is [MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan] Peevski's man'. Thus, a professional with a long career, who rose through the ranks under various leaderships of the Interior Ministry, was cast as a conspirator. Without facts or arguments, as a knee-jerk political reaction," Mitov wrote in his post.
On Tuesday, Yes, Bulgaria Co-chair Ivaylo Mirchev wrote on Facebook that Rashkov is "as politically neutral as the previous interior ministers who served the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and Peevski, and then one of those [Kalin Stoyanov] 'politically neutral experts' became an MP of MRF-New Beginning."
Earlier on Wednesday, the Government decided to ask the President to issue a decree appointing Miroslav Rashkov as the Interior Ministry's Secretary General.
Miroslav Rashkov is currently acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior.
