The National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) has restored the railway track and overhead contact line between the Lyubenovo and Simeonovgrad stations destroyed in an August 15 accident near the village of Pyasachevo, Haskovo Region, NRIC said on Tuesday. Train service on the section has resumed.

The repair works included replacing 100 metres of track and 200 sleepers, laying 140 cubic metres of ballast, and restoring the overhead contact line.

The railway track was destroyed after 13 freight wagons of a 34-wagon train derailed. Each of the tankers was carrying between 60 and 80 tonnes of diesel fuel. Some of the cars caught fire in the accident, but the flames were put out. No casualties were reported.

In the coming days, train speed will be restricted, with safety officers monitoring the section.

NRIC said round-the-clock work by its Plovdiv railway and power departments restored train service on the section in record time.
