site.btaChild Dies in Parasailing Accident in Nessebar

A child has died in an accident involving a parachute towed by a motorboat at the southern beach in Nessebar, Kiril Spasov, the concessionnaire of the beach, told BTA Monday. According to him, the incident occurred around noon today. The child fell from a great height into the sea. Resuscitation efforts were made on-site but were unsuccessful.
The child took the ride together with their mother.
Police said later that the child was 8-year-old and that the fall was from a height of 40-50 m. Three people of the organizers of the parasailing rides have been remanded in custody. An investigation is underway.
Spasov stated that the likely cause of the accident was a malfunction with one of the harness straps.
"We’ve been organizing such parasailing activities for years, and we've never had any incidents. The equipment we use is of the highest standard. My colleagues cannot explain how this terrible accident happened. My condolences to the child’s family," said Kiril Spasov.
