Health Minister Silvi Kirilov has instructed the National Council on Pricing and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products to take steps toward publishing the prices of medicines in euro, the Ministry of Health said in a press release on Tuesday.

The National Council regulates the so-called ceiling prices of prescription drugs and registers the maximum retail prices of over-the-counter (OTC) medications.

In line with the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria Act, all relevant registries must be adapted to reflect the single European currency by January 1, 2026. As part of the country’s early preparations, the Council will begin publishing drug prices in euro on its website starting August 8, 2025.

The move is intended to ensure clarity and reassurance for Bulgarian citizens ahead of the euro adoption.

To facilitate the process, automatic conversion from BGN to EUR has already been applied to the Registry of Approved Ceiling Prices, the Registry of Maximum Retail Prices, and Annex 4 of the Positive Drug List. Prices in both currencies will also be accessible through a dedicated mobile application.

The early publication of drug prices in euro is expected to contribute to predictability and stability during the transition to the new currency, the press release further said.
