A wildfire near the village of Gorno Spanchevo, Municipality of Sandanski, has affected approximately 70 hectares of land, including about 50 hectares of forested area, according to a statement released Thursday by the Southwest State Forestry Enterprise.
The blaze, which erupted on Wednesday, has spread through both agricultural and forested terrain. Fire crews are currently working to prevent further escalation and bring the situation under control.
On-site operations include two bulldozers clearing firebreaks to contain the flames and enable better access for firefighting vehicles. Twenty employees from the state forestry farms in Katuntsi and Petrich are assisting in the effort, supported by a specialized fire engine. Firefighters from the regional fire services in Petrich, Sandanski, and Gotse Delchev are also on site.
Firefighting teams continue to monitor the situation closely, with containment efforts expected to continue into the night if necessary.
