Members of the Renew Europe group on the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will call for a fact-finding mission to Bulgaria over the case of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament said on Wednesday.

The announcement included photos from Wednesday’s event in Brussels supporting Kotsev and the other detainees under investigation for alleged corruption. Renew Europe expressed concern about the decline of the rule of law in Bulgaria, citing suspicions of political interference and selective justice. The post asserted that the judiciary must remain independent from political interests.
