A motorcade from Dupnitsa to Rila was organized on Saturday by political party Vazrazhdane in defence of the Bulgarian lev. The procession was initially planned to take place on the Struma motorway, but due to the heavy traffic typical for the season, a compromise was reached with the police, and the route was redirected through the villages of Usoyka and Mursalevo, the town of Kocherinovo, and ended in the town of Rila, which served as the final destination, MP Dimcho Dimchev from Vazrazhdane told BTA.

"Our goal is not to make life harder for institutions or citizens. Our goal is to be heard," Dimchev said. He emphasized that the party disagrees with what they call the "forced entry into the eurozone" and wants to express its civic position. "It's true that a decision has been made, but nothing is lost, at least not for us, because there hasn't been enough public discussion about the eurozone and the preservation of the lev," Dimchev added.

The motorcade included vehicles from Dupnitsa and Sapareva Banya. "Pernik and Blagoevgrad did not participate due to the cancellation of the original route along the motorway," Dimchev noted. He added that the aim of the procession was to reach fellow citizens whose voices are not being heard.

"There will be more initiatives in this direction," Dimchev noted.

The procession was monitored by traffic police. Senior Inspector Daniel Tonev was present at the scene. A team from the Road Infrastructure Agency was also there to prevent any incidents.
